To avoid adding to the post-holiday fatigue many people feel at the start of the year, the Academy has moved the Starlight Ball from January to May. The event—ARTafterDARK’s annual gala benefit for the Academy—returns sleek and pared down with the theme Black and White. Sponsored by Prada, the evening will feature a projection of the label’s new film noir short that was shot in the streets of Shanghai—in black and white of course.
   
Tickets:
Individual: $85
Premium Table for 4: $500
VIP Benefactor Table for 10: $2,500

Dress:  Black and white chic, cocktail attire
   
The VIP Benefactor Experience ($2,500):
VIPs arrive through a private entrance to a pre-party from 5:30 to 7pm. You'll be served a three-course dinner by Azure—chef Jon Matsubara himself will be on hand. PRADA gifts for your guests. Special entertainment and a live auction round out the evening including a four-night stay for two in an ocean-view room at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea. Entertainment provided by Lauren Silva.


Food:
Some of Honolulu's top restaurants purveyors, including our own Pavilion Cafe, Nobu Waikiki,Town, Rum Fire, La Gelateria, Hokulani Bake Shop and Whole Foods Market, will have stations for gourmet grazing for holders of individual and premium table tickets. 

Entertainment:
Honolulu's top jazz entertainers:  Stephen Jones, Anita Hall, Zanuck Lindsey, Dan Del Negro and Adam Baron perform in Central Court from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Nocturnal Sound Krew will be on hand from 9:00 - 11:00 p.m. Also entertaining in Kinau Court will be Vernon Sakata from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

The Art Experience:
This year, the Starlight Ball will debut ARTBAR—a showcase of art (in black and white of course) by local artists for sale. Featured artists so far: Charlie Brown, Bradley CapelloGaye Chan, Charles Cohan, Chuck Davis, Jean-Jacques Dicker, Pat Ekstrand, Kandi Everett, Philippe Gross, Christine Harris-Amos, Vince Hazen, Nicole Higa, Ryan Higa, Hyeyoung Kim, John Koga, Andy Lee, Alan Leitner, Stephen Little, Deborah Nehmad, Naomi Olson, Koi Ozu, Aaron Padilla, Jo Rowley, Kirsten Rae Simonsen, Laura Smith, Kelly Sueda, Maikai Tubbs, Shuzo Uemoto, Arlo Valera, Jared Wickware, Atsumi Yamamoto, Maile Yawata, Debbie Young.

Observe artist Andy Lee create scrolls utilizing modernized images using traditional sumi-e brushes and ink. Imagine western iconography and concepts rendered under the flair of a traditional Eastern painting method - DJ's, toasters, hammers, painted with calligraphic brushstrokes -
amazing. These scrolls will be available for purchase at the Starlight Ball 2010.
